The Buzz in Internet Marketing

Colm Butterly is a Computer Engineer, Internet Marketer, SEO Expert and Author of "Search Domination Challenge".

Piggyback Viral Advertising..

Do you remember hearing about or seeing the video on YouTube that showed what happens when you put a Mentos sweet into a Diet Coke? Mixing these two products gives an almost explosive effect and the notion spawned hundreds of new video uploads and millions of views for the best of them.

Some of the videos were great and some were rubbish, but as they were all linked by keywords on YouTube, the ones with the most views got more and more viewers. The top ones have been viewed well over 7 million times!

Imagine the effect on your business if your product was associated with "buzz" item like this..

If even just a small portion of the attention the topic was getting was grabbed for your product, the traffic brought to your site would be phenomenal.

Web 2.0 Style Graphics

Web 2.0 Graphics

My newsletter went out today and one of the items I mentioned in it was a very handy tool I stumbled across for making Web 2.0 style graphics. The newsletter is available in pdf format, but I’m sure some subscribers have only seen the email text version. For those people who have only seen the text version, I promised to post some examples of the graphics I made while playing with this great online tool.

Now I’m no artist and I’ve always struggled with the creative side of making graphics for web pages, but I think these look pretty good for five minutes work!

The tool in question is available from here and costs a one-off payment of $6.97 for lifetime access. I reckon I’ve already got my moneys worth just from the fun I’ve had playing with it - and I will be using it for plenty of graphic creation jobs in the future!

 Click Web 2.0 Graphics

Oh yeah, and you can sign up for the Newsletter at the top right!

Link Cloaking for Affiliate Links (URLs)

There appears to have been a lot of discussion lately on the subject of link cloaking and what might be the best method to use. There have been a couple of new products released that generate pages you can use to cloak affiliate links and there are also a few new sites that offer to divert your URL through their service. The sites are all offering a service very similar to tinyurl.com.

The idea is that you create your link as a a subfolder or code string on their servers and they will track click-through metrics for you. Now, I don’t think anyone disputes the necessity for link cloaking as, particularly with ClickBank URLs, it is too easy for anyone to replace your affiliate code with theirs meaning you lose out on the sale (strangely, the terms of service on ClickBank say you should not use cloaked links, yet they give examples for you to use). But I don’t get why you would want to hand over control and responsibility for your links maintainance to someone else.

For people starting out in Internet Marketing, it is relatively easy to create pages that redirect to your affiliate URL, thus cloaking your link and protecting your affiliate commissions. This was the subject of some debate over on the Standing Start Profits forum. I figured the easiest way to give everyone access to these simple tools was to publish them here on my blog.

You will see the link to the set of cloaking page tools above in the navigation bar marked “cloaking“. These have all been around a long time and are all free to use. I’ve just put them into one place for easy reference.

If you have developed your online business to the degree where tracking source traffic and click-throughs is an important consideration, I reckon the best tool is GoTryThis. You host the script on your own webspace so you are not relying on someone else’s service and you can choose the link text yourself with terrific metrics given in graphical format.

The down-side of GoTryThis at time of writing is that it’s creator, John Reel, is doing a one-time sale of the Black-Hat version and the sales page for the WhiteHat version is not available. Apparently he’s getting some funds together to use in the release of GoTryThis version 2 of the software. The version I have does so much already, I can’t wait to see what is in store in the next version! I’ll let you know when it comes out, but, for now, play with the redirect scripts in the “Cloaking” page. The top one uses a similar method for cloaking as used in  some top software :)

P.S. I’ve used a few different link cloaking methods in the links in this post ;)

Search Domination Challenge is a Huge Success.

Search Domination Challenge has been running as a wso for the last week as
posted previously and it has also been promoted on a few mailing lists. I’m
happy to say my ”first night nerves” were completely unfounded and the
book has sold in greater volume than I could have dreamed possible.

I am thrilled by the amount of positive feedback I received from customers.

“I LOVE the screenshots”

“WOW! This is rock solid complete with screenshots diagrams…the works :) That’s the kind of thing that really helps me to learn.”Search Domination Challenge

“Wow! It’s not often I read every word in an ebook, especially in one sitting.
Your ebook is easy to read and understand, not to mention full of useful information. I’ll be recommending this to my customers…”

“What can I say? It was just that good that I also sat and read it from start to finish.”

“I got it and man is it hard to put down. Think my highlighter is almost out of ink. ;-p
Good job on an excellent product! Gotta go, I have some SEO work to do.”

“This is a great book which I would recommend to anyone without hestitation. A fantastic read!”

“I did a fair amount of highlighting and underlining so that I could quickly go back and put some of this stuff into practice.”

“A keeper indeed! I need a new highlighter lol. This is going into my binder.”

“Can you send me the signup url so that I can start promoting the ebook because it something that no one should go with out. The information is worth a lot more than what you are charging for the ebook.”

These comments and more I received on forums and by email have justified the
long hours I put into getting the book to where I felt it was exactly right.

What more can I ask for? Search Domination Challenge is available for sale
and buyers love it!!

Search Domination Challenge wso

Search Domination Challenge launched as a Warriors Special Offer on The Warrior Forum today.

This is a very nervous time for anyone launching a new product. There are just so many things that can go wrong. I’m hoping I’ve got everything covered, but it’s always worthwhile to do a quick recap.

  • Base script for website. Check. I’m using Sid Hale’s Rapid Action Profits for
    easy management and reporting.
  • Sales Page. Check. It’s looking good and I have to stop tweaking the copy now!
  • Payment System. Check. I’m using Paypal as it integrates well with the script for reporting sales and conversion rates and download management.
  • Squeeze Page. Check. On successful Payment through Paypal customers are presented with a page to sign up for product updates and my newsletter.
  • One Time Offer Page. Check. I’m offering “The User Generated Content Handbook” as a complimentary product with a deep discount as a one-off offer when buying Search Domination Challenge.
  • Download Page. Check. Customers can download their copy of the book from a specially generated download page that expires after 48 hours. This avoids people passing the link around “pirating” copies of the book.
  • One Time Offer Download Page. Check. Both downloads are available here just as in the single download page. I also put a link on the download pages to the affiliate program for anyone who wants to sell Search Domination Challenge as an affiliate.
  • Affiliate Page. Check. Affiliates can sign up to sell the book using a specially generated “nickname”. This nickname goes into the affiliate URL instead of their Paypal email address.
  • Affiliate Tools Page. Check. Banners, Graphics, Peel Away Ad, Forum & Email signatures, promotional emails - all good to go.
  • Test every stage of the script. Check. Everything tested completely using Paypals sandbox accounts. Live checks performed by selling the product from one account to another. Well checked in all different browsers, Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer 7 (32-bit & 64-bit).

The testing took up a lot more time than actually setting up the script, but you can’t be too careful with these things. I was emailing with a guy 2 days ago whose 7 dollar script crashed out on him during a wso and he had a nightmare time of it. Customers were posting on the forum about problems and it pretty near killed his promotion.  I felt for him and offered him what help I could at the time (including free altenate hosting).

His experience decided me to go down the path of full redundancy. Every page
and every step of the sales process had to be replicated using static pages as
a back up in case of a problem arising with the script.

I think I have all bases covered, but I just can’t shake the nervous excitement :)

Here goes. Wish me luck!

Search Domination Challenge

Hi Everybody,

My name is Colm Butterly and I challenge you to get your links onto the front page of Google!

On a quick poll of readers, some of the best reactions I got to that statement were:

“Yeah, right.. And pigs might fly!”

“Is that before or after I win the Boston Marathon?”

“How the ….. do you expect me to do that?!”

“If I could do that I wouldn’t be sat here looking at your crummy website!”

I quite enjoyed some of the more inventive answers, so I’ll give you a chance to add your own reactions a bit further on…

There were also quite a few people who gave answers of the type
“If I could do that…”

“…I’d retire on my AdSense income”

“…I’d tell [deleted] to stick his job and go full-time online”

“…I could afford to ……..”

“…I’d be on a beach in ……………..”

You get the idea; fill in the blanks for yourself!

One thing I do regret about working online is missing the facial expressions when I say:

“No, really, I’m serious! I am challenging you to get your links onto the front page of Google.”

I’m not directing this challenge to search engine optimisation experts either. Getting ranked high on Google is bread and butter stuff to them.

No, I’m challenging people who would love to do it and don’t know how. I’m challenging anybody using a website for personal or business use. I’m challenging you.

- and I’ll show you how…

I ran a competition from the Search Domination Challenge website a short time ago. Here’s what one of the contestants had to say…

Search Domination Challenge Proof

What’s the buzz all about? Here’s a big clue..

Dominating Google

Search Domination Challenge will show you exactly how to get those sort of search results for yourself.

I’ll take you by the hand and show you in detail, with side-notes and graphics, how to spend as little as 15 mins a day for one week to get yourself on the best real estate on the internet.. the front page of Google!

  • Do you think you might benefit from having this knowledge in your business armoury?
  • Are you ready to test out if that hosting account you bought is really unlimited?
  • Would you like to be able to get highly targeted traffic to your website with as little effort as turning on the lawn sprinklers?
  • Is it time for this online marketing to become like having fun again?
  • Are you ready to take me up on my challenge to you “to dominate the search engine results pages”?

You answered “yes”, right?

Well, I’m sorry, but you are going to have to wait just a little bit longer…

You see, Search Domination Challenge is just going into pre-launch and it won’t be on general release for another while yet. But I sure don’t want you to leave here disappointed..

How about you sign up for my newsletter and you’ll be the first to hear when Search Domination Challenge is released. As a thank you, and just to give you a taster of what’s to come, I’ll send you a copy of my “Squidoo Launch Pad”.

This has never been generally released before and you can join the exclusive group who are using it right now to help their businesses gain traffic!

To Your Success,

If this looks a bit Empty….

Hi all,

I have just completed creating this new hosted blog. It took some time and effort
to get the design the way I wanted, so I hope you like the look of it.

I am still in the process of porting posts from my older blog on Blogger. If you
have arrived here before I have much content displayed, you can take a look
at http://recalibrating.blogspot.com to see what I have been up to :)

As this is a work in progress, be sure to check back soon to see the changes
I am making..

Quick Steps to Google Success!

As a little helper to all who are taking part in my Search Domination Challenge and as a generally useful tip for everyone else, I am publishing an answer I gave a while back to a member on the Standing Start Profits private forum.

Q. What is the best way to get in the top 10 pages of the search engines?

I’ve joined a link swapping site and I’m starting to submit articles about my website/subject matter to article directories containing an anchor text backlink to my site - is this the right way to go about things? Is there anything else I need to be doing? My keywords are [deleted].

A. I think you’ll be in for the keywords “[deleted]” and “[deleted]” as they are tight niche keywords.

Here’s how I’d go about it:

  • Set up a blog
  • Put all your published articles on your blog
  • Set up a Squidoo lens on your keyword
  • Use your blog rss as feed for your lens and use the links module to link to where the articles are published
  • Use your lens to get people to go to your sales site (once your keywords are doing well you can include a google result for your terms on your lens too)
  • Use Digg, Del.icio.us, stumbleupon, Technorati, and others to bookmark your Site, lens and blog regularly
  • Put an opt-in form on your blog to get subscibers to your list.
  • Keep at it - keep adding content

Then every time someone searches for your keyword they will find you

Does it work? Google “Auction Profits Unleashed” - 3 or 4 on the first page are mine!

Your only investment is your time..

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you are taking part in the Search Domination Challenge (click the link to enter - there may still be time!), you will find this formula provides exactly what you need to be among the winners. If not, you will find this useful in product and affiliate marketing too!

Good luck to all the entrants!!!

Auction Secret Profits is Here!!

Scroll down to below my posts about my Search Domination Challenge and you will see a post on Auction Secret Profits.

Shout it from the rooftops ‘cos Auction Secret Profits was released today!!

Because of my involvement on the Standing Start Profits forum, I was lucky enough to get a copy before it was released!
I liked it so much I sent Lee McIntyre a testimonial for it. Here’s what I said:

“Have you ever had a “Homer” moment? You know, …Doh!!..

I’ve been selling stuff on eBay for a long time and I gotta tell you I had a lot of Homer moments reading this book.

In fact, by chapter 5 of Auction Secret Profits, I had gone into my Ebay account and cancelled 2 live listings and created 4 new ones! That’s how wrong I was.

Thanks, Lee, I am now looking at doing business on eBay in a whole new light!
With the clear, easy to follow instructions you give, anybody can now make an income selling info-products!”

I don’t think I need to add to that, so click here to get your copy! http://auction-secret-profits.com.
You’ll thank me for it!

Search Domination Challenge - A competition and a challenge!

In the last months I have been spending a lot of time writing a book on Search Engine Optimisation and Web 2.0 services.

The book is to be called Search Domination Challenge. In fact most of my posts on Recalibrating Available Space in July were made as part of my research for this book.

I took on Auction ProfitsUnleashed as a product to promote and tested a lot of Web 2.0 methods for getting results in the search engines. I also did some testing on Auto Auction Income and on Standing Start Profits.Does this all start to make sense now? The results themselves as posted on Recalibrating Available Space also became part of the data.

In the book, I go into detail on the methods I used to gain these first page search engine results and more. In order to be all-inclusive, I also go into the practice of On-page SEO, but a lot of the meat is on leveraging the right Web 2.0 services to lend authority to your search optimised pages.

But Search Domination Challenge is intended to be more than just a book. I like the principles behind Open Source and the user experience of Web 2.0, so I never set out to create a “static” book. It will be published in digital format and invites questions, comments, and suggestions which will be integrated into various revisions over time. I want the owners of the book to be a community and my ambition for it is to become the Web 2.0 users’ bible for search engine optimisation.

I have invested months of long hours and late nights in this book to give the reader the best value possible. It is definitely not “another ebook”. I’ll leave the sales copy to the professionals, but I wanted to introduce the book in a way that demonstates the ethos behind it. Hence the “competition and a challenge” of the post title!

Go to http://searchdominationchallenge.com/ to see an unusual approach to introducing a book to market. Enter the competition there.

The winners, and there will be a good few, will get the book free. You will get it before the book launch and will be able to use the techniques in the book to promote it during prelaunch as a full Joint Venture partner. I don’t believe an internet marketing opportunity like this has ever been thrown open to all comers. Prelaunch is normally the exclusive domain of the established “gurus”.

The competition also gives all entrants the opportunity to stretch their SEO talents and get search engine placements established in advance of launch. I’m hoping you can earn good affiliate income on sales of the book by having this
advance notice.

So what are you waiting for? Click Search Domination Challenge anywhere in this post and grab your chance now!
